like an idiot I disable sounds on my desktop. Can anyone give me any walk-throughs on
how to turn it back on or restore it to an earlier time so I can hear things again?

If you’ve just muted them, try this.
You’ll be doing it by counting, or such.
Press insert and F11.
Next you need to get to your speakers. Try pressing the letter S.
Assume you are on the speakers. Press enter.
Press enter again.
Now you should be on the main volume place.
Tab once.
Press the space bar to unmute the sound.
Okay, if typing S doesn’t take you to your speakers.
Try everything again, but this time instead of typing S, hold the down arrow key until you think you are at the bottom.
Repeat everything else from that point.
If that doesn’t work, if you can’t get sighted help, buy yourself a USB sound card.
ATguys.com has them, or other places.
You get one, you can just plug it in, and Jaws and the sounds will follow.
Now you can fix it and remove the card.
I use these when I can’t see.
Smile.
Good luck.

I use a Braille Display when sound becomes muted.

For real I tried that exact thing the first thing actually and no go. So I called up someone on be my eyes and we tried several things that did not work. Tried be my eyes one last time and actually got a tech guy in Korea who fixed me right up! I so happy :) but hearty boy I was thinking the same thing. I was like a braille display would sure come in handy about now.

Its difficult when it happens. USB cards are $15 or so. Braille displays? Well.
Laughing.
Be careful.

If I lose sound, I just plug in my USB headset. It only works in one ear, but that's ok for just fixing the sound issues that sometimes crop up. I can say this, when sound issues do crop up, they are annoying!

Right. That is similar to using a USB sound card. I wonder why yours only sounds in one ear though?
